AI arbitration used in Guangzhou, China

At the close of the hearing, the AI assistant wrote to the disputants: “Today’s hearing has come to an end. I am currently analyzing the trial data and the ruling opinion will be sent to the arbitration tribunal via email in 5 minutes.” “Created by the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission, the assistant can improve the efficiency of resolving disputes by nearly four times by completing procedural tasks including intelligent acceptance of cases, multilingual realtime translation, blockchain recognition of evidence and inputting viewpoints and statements, according to the commission,” writes Qiu Quanlin for China Daily.

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to Launch Online Dispute Resolution

From Mohit Mokal’s blog:

“SEBI, the Securities and Exchange Board of India, has recently announced its plan to implement an online dispute resolution (ODR) mechanism for its stakeholders. The move aims to provide a more accessible and efficient dispute resolution process for investors and other market participants. This announcement came after the SEBI Board Meeting held on 29th March 2023, and the ODR mechanism will be implemented through a dedicated online platform, designed to offer easy access to investors, intermediaries, and listed companies for dispute resolution.

SEBI has been working tirelessly to improve the dispute resolution process, particularly by making it more efficient and swift. Currently, dispute resolution cases can take a long time to be resolved, causing frustration to investors and stakeholders. Hence, SEBI’s decision to enable online dispute resolution will allow investors and other stakeholders to submit their complaints online and have them resolved in a timely manner. SEBI is also committed to ensuring the security and reliability of the ODR process…”

Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Mediation

I want to make sure everyone is aware of our online conference on Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Mediation, happening next week. Tools like ChatGPT4 and Google Bard are poised to make huge changes in our society, and the field of mediation is no exception.

All of us in the ODR field need to quickly get smarter about what AI can and cannot do, and what ethical issues it raises for mediation and mediators. As AI becomes more common across society, our parties will expect to be able to leverage these tools in finding resolution to their problems.

Many ICODR friends will be presenting at this conference (e.g. Ethan Katsh, Leah Wing, Dan Rainey, Andy Lee, Zbynek Loebl, Bob Bergman, etc.) but also many people from the AI field who are working with these tools up close.

Here are the details:

April 18-19, 2023 8:45am-5pm PST (11:45am-8pm EST)

Conference details are at https://mediate.com/ai

The sessions will be recorded and made available shortly following the conference. All registrants will be given 6 months access to view the conference recordings at mediateuniversity.com.
